Cape Central High Photos Ken Steinhoff, Cape Girardeau Central High School Class of 1965, was a photographer for The Tiger and The Girardot, and was on the staff of The Capaha Arrow and The Sagamore at Southeast Missouri State University. He worked as a photographer / reporter (among other things) at The Jackson Pioneer and The Southeast Missourian.

Natatorium Gets Paint Job
 At the end of January, I posted a picture of the Marquette Natatorium taken in October 2009 paired with a photo my wife’s niece, Laurie Evertt (of Annie Laurie’s Antiques), shot January 29 of this year. Her photo (above) showed it looking pretty shabby.

Good news: Natatorium looks spiffy
The was some speculation that the building might be headed for the wrecking ball, but we had a pleasant surprise when we drove past the place on Easter. It was sporting a spiffy new paint job.
It needs some black paint inside the carved name to make it look like new.
It’s no longer being used as a swimming pool, but it appears the building will be around for us to appreciate for a few more years.

I am so happy to see this! You know this is one of my favorite buildings and I too thought it was headed for disaster. Whoohoo for the Natatorium.
I guess the city father’s were right back in the 1960′s. it still costs more to destroy the old monster than to keep it going!
