I was 6 months old when we moved there from Themis Street in 1957. My older brothers Larry & Jim remember the neighborhood better than I and Jim was always fishing at 3 mile creek. The Nolans lived on the corner of Kurre and Kingsway and Ann Nolan had a beauty shop in the basement. We picked blackberries by the bucket full near what is now Lexington. That area was all woods and farmland. We moved to a house Dad built on Lyndhurst in 1962. Huntington was a gravel road then.

Ken, we lived in the Kurre house on Kurre Lane. I was 6 months old when we moved there from Themis Street in 1957. We built a powerful transmitter and had a very nice Amateur Radio station there for years. i was about 13-16 years old then and what a great group of Hams. Some were from the spark gap days of early radio and I sit spellbound for hours listening to their stories of the beginning of radio

That is a picture of Fort D where we used to have our Ham Radio meetings. Had other categories; biggest, smallest, prettiest, etc. Also remember sliding down big concrete slam outside Fort D coming home from school.

Attended May Greene 1st & 2nd grades (1937/38). remember Kite flying contests where everyone cheered for Mr Wilkinson (janaitor) in highest kite contest. However, due to extenuating circumstances I was not able to partipcate but I will always have fond memories of May Green School and my classmate, Ann Ellis.

I attended May Greene School for five years and was looking forward to my sixth year because only sixth graders could particpate in the May Pole Ceremony. It was in 1968 when i was on the fire dept. doing building inspections the first time i went back in the school since the 6th grade. It was like all the steps inside the building got shorter. they were tall back in grade school. The inside of the building was not as big as it seems 10 years later. After school was out we used to shimey up a drain pipe on the east side of the building to retreave balls that was hit upon the roof.

May Green was my grade school. I could never bring up those newspaper editions on file you sent me. I still appreciate your effort. What I like so much about this is that Penny Oliver responded. Penny, wasn't your mother the Libby Oliver who served as Mistress of Ceremonies at Girl Scout events? If so, she had a major impact on my life. It is a miracle that I grew up to be a public speaker since I was so shy as a child. You may not remember that in high school ... but that story is too long to share now.At any rate, my entire adult life has found me sometimes with regularity holding in front of a microphone. I was always intrigued by Mrs. Oliver's professionalism and at the same time humor. I try to incorporate both because of her.I would like very much to have a picture of her if any one has one and would want to share it. Thank you.I also remember going to Penny's home, I think, for a Girl Scout swimming party that Libby Oliver sponsored.Speaking of Girl Scout memories, do any of you have any pictures of us at day camp or of making tin can stew in I think the alley on Themis Street?

Ken, you and I tried to find info on Libby Oliver. It's interesting how so many of us identify not only with a school, but with the neighborhoods surrounding the school. If you have an email address for Mary Nowell, would you send it to me off-line? I've been setting aside photos of her dad and Nowell's Camera until I can find a few more. When I run the page, I'd like to make sure she sees it.Mr. Nowell had a major influence on my life. He gave many a young photographer a start by letting us hang out in his shop and extending us credit to buy equipment and supplies. There were a number of times when I discovered that I had run out of photo paper or a chemical after the store was closed. He never failed to come down to open up for me. Try that with one of your big box stores these days.

Prudy,

Thanks for the comment.
