Mississippi River North of Cairo

Aerials Cairo area 08-13-2014

I know the barge is working its way south just north of Cairo, but I’m not exactly sure where it was when I shot it last fall.

Google Earth makes it look like it might be in the vicinity of Dogtooth Island and Sliding Towhead, although it COULD also be near Buffalo Island. Like always, you can click on it to make it larger.

  1. That is just Dr. Steinoffs fancy way of saying he LOVES US! He really really loves us more than those slim, tanned, beautiful, superficial Floridians like MagnumPU Terry Hopkins and Jacqie Jackson!

  3. Looks like headed from Goose Island Bend over to Buffalo Island. at the very top of the picture left hand side looks like Burnham Isl. That is across from Commerce farther up. Also one the right bank below the island is an indentation on the bank. That is where the levee broke in 1993 flood.

  4. Gees…Brune, we heard you the first time…The river is different for the ocean or the gulf. In my case, looking and watching it change my the minute, the river can not be beat, but for swimming and enjoying the water…sorry but give me the ocean and the gulf every time.

  5. Nothing like being up in the air to see how amazing the river is. (Brune probably has to say everything twice since he forgets the next moment that he already posted)

  6. Oh……. so you are talking about….. having to touch…. smell… or swim in….. the ……… actual water ?? never mind……
